1/ Stone Fountain

The massive polygonal fountain with twelve sides in the late Gothic style, whose authorship was attributed for a long time to Matěj Rejsek, but is more likely to be the signature of Brikcí of Wrocław, is one of the greatest attractions of the historic center. It is decorated with many phials and crucifixes and originally had, according to old descriptions, attic railings, a high hexagonal roof and was probably decorated with several statues on brackets.

Intensive mining activity during the Middle Ages resulted in the disruption of the underground springs and the town struggled to provide sufficient drinking water for its inhabitants. A solution to the problem was provided by the construction of a stone fountain in 1495 in today's Rejsek's Square. Until 1890, the fountain served as a water reservoir to which drinking water was fed through a wooden pipe from the nearby St. Vojtěch spring near Bylany.
