Tyl´s Municipal Theatre in Kutná Hora

Many theaters throughout the Czech Republic are named after Josef Kajetán Tyl. Among them, for example, theaters in Pilsen (where Tyl died), Rakovnik, Lomnice nad Popelkou, Třeboň etc. However, Kutná Hora can boast of the fact that this outstanding Czech playwright was born here in 1808, therefore the local theater naturally had to bear his name.

It was Tyl who wanted to build a theater in Kutná Hora, but this desire was implemented about 100 years later when in 1931 local architects brothers Rudolf and Josef Hrab developed a plan for the construction of a local theater. 25 months after the start of construction, its grand opening took place on November 12, 1933.

This functionalist building, located in the city center, lives up to the essence of its building style, as it is not only architecturally, but also technically admirably and functionally designed. Its capacity is 507 seats, 6 of which are wheelchair accessible. The theater has two halls - the main hall and the former Puppet Stage, which was after extensive reconstruction transformed into a Small Stage with 95 seats.
